US Defence Secretary James Mattis calls Manohar Parrikar, vows to build upon defence cooperation

India and US have agreed to “sustain the momentum on key bilateral defence efforts” after Defence Secretary James Mattis called his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar and expressed commitment to build upon the tremendous progress made in bilateral defence cooperation. This was the first conversation between the two leaders after Mattis was sworn in as the Defense Secretary of the US President Donald Trump last month.

Punjab Assembly elections 2017: Repolling begins in 48 polling stations

Repolling in 48 polling stations in Amritsar, Moga, Muktsar, Mansa and Sangrur districts began this morning. Repolling at polling stations under Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency and Assembly segments was ordered by the Election Commission following malfunctioning of Voter-Verified Audit Paper Trail and Electronic Voting Machines in these stations during polling on February 4, according to reports. It has been learned that Punjab government had declared a paid holiday in Amritsar, Moga, Muktsar, Mansa and Sangrur districts to enable people working in factories, shops and commercial establishments in the five districts to exercise their franchise “In the wake of the repoll in some booths of five districts in the state tomorrow, the Punjab government has declared a holiday in Amritsar, Moga, Muktsar, Mansa and Sangrur districts on February 9,” a state government spokesperson said in a release.
