An unidentified group of terrorists on Friday evening threw a Chinese grenade at Barari Pora Chowk in Srinagar, reported ANI. However, the grenade did not explode. No injuries have been reported and further details are awaited on the same. This is not for the first time that militants in Kashmir have launched an attack like this. Earlier in September, one person was killed along with 14 others injured after terrorists threw a grenade at Jehangir Chowk in Srinagar. SP Srinagar Imtiaz Parray told PTI that some miscreant tried to throw a grenade on the deployment but reportedly it exploded close to him. The miscreant was himself injured in the attack which took place at around 5.40 pm on September 7. “According to eyewitnesses, the person who hurled the grenade was also among the injured. We are trying to verify this,” Parray said further.
The deceased militant was identified as Maqsood Shah who was a resident of Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir. Even a day prior to this incident, another group of suspected militants lobbed a grenade on a Police station in Shopian which did not explode. An FIR was lodged in this regard.
Earlier in April, a policeman was killed along with 10 others injured in a grenade attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowhatta. According to a report by NDTV, a police party was attacked near a police station in Nowhatta in downtown Srinagar when cops were returning from duty around 7 pm on April 2.
Terrorist attacks in Srinagar has become a frequent incident and police convoys, troops and stations are on high alerts these days. Three suicide attackers carrying a massive arsenal of guns and explosives attacked a Border Security Force (BSF) camp near the Srinagar airport earlier this month. The militants opened fire which claimed life of a BSF soldier.
