Ex-BJP leader and vice-president in UP, Dayashankar Singh was arrested on Friday from Buxar in Bihar. UP Police and Bihar Police in joint operation caught him. After the ‘prostitute’ remark on BSP leader Mayawati, the MP managed to create a stir among the people and also the parliament. The leader was then expelled by BJP. Singh ever since, has been on the run. The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Lucknow had issued a non-bailable warrant against him. The politician, who is on a run, had filed a plea seeking a stay on his arrest on July 25. The court, in turn, has adjourned the hearing till 8th August. There were a few pictures where Dayashankar was seen to be posing happily with four other people. The pictures claimed that Singh was seen at a Deoghar temple in Jharkhand on July 24.
BSP supremo against whom Singh had made derogatory remarks, Mayawati had reacted to the pictures saying that Dayashankar Singh was seen in a BJP ruled state, which denotes that ‘he is being protected’. Earlier she had expressed her disappointment with BJP saying BJP had not taken a strict action just by expelling Singh. BSP workers took to the streets to protest Singh’s insulting comments against Mayawati in many parts of Uttar Pradesh. In turn, Dayashankar Singh’s wife Swati filed an FIR against BSP workers, alleging that her dauther was being ‘traumatised’. On July 23 she demanded the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act to be imposed on Mayawati. The political slug now is expected to take a new turn after Dayashankar’s arrest.
