Sasikala ‘loyalist’ and AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswamy who took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today will have to take the Vote of Confidence in assembly on February 18, according to assembly Secretary Jamaludeen – the earlier-announced 15-day period therefore, is no longer valid. A 31-member Cabinet was sworn in along with the CM by Governor C Vidyasagar Rao at Chennai’s Raj Bhavan on Thursday afternoon. Palaniswamy has become the third chief minister of the state within a span of three months.

Ending the 10 day long political drama in Tamil Nadu, Edappadi Palaniswamy took oath as the state Chief Minister today. While that spelled a kind of victory for Sasikala, as she has been able to get her ‘loyalist’ elected as the chief minister despite being jailed by the Supreme Court.

Palaniswamy was invited to the Raj Bhavan by Tamil Nadu governor C Vidyasagar Rao, after which he submitted his cabinet list containing the names of 31 ministers to the governor. All the 31 minister along with E Palaniswamy took oath in the presence of the Rao. The 30 members of O Panneerselvam Cabinet have been retained by the E Palaniswamy and have sworn in along with the CM.

Meanwhile, AIADMK workers and supporters distributed sweets outside the resort after the Raj Bhavan ceremony ended at the Raj Bhawan, OPS supporters took to streets in protest. Pannerselvam supporters clashed with the supporters of newly appointed minister C. V. Shanmugam. However, the situation was brought under control by the police before it could spin out of control. Injuries and damage to property was kept at the minimum and the crowds were dispersed soon thereafter.
