Amidst all the drama in Tamil Nadu and within All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), DMK has been a mute spectator. However, after O. Panneerselvam’s revolt against VK Sasikala, DMK right now is foreseeing two situations. The party have a strong stand that they won’t lend support to minority government led by Panneerselvam.

However, if Panneerselvam is able to get the support of majority of MLAs from the party, the DMK leaders are ready to consider the option of forming a DMK-led government backed by the OPS faction from outside and not the other way around. The DMK leaders also believe that a situation like this may not come because VK Sasikala will take the smart route by allowing another party leader to take over as the Chief Minister.

But, they were also confident that she will remain to be the party chief and control the government from outside. According to DMK, the leader contender for the post could be Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai. He had previously served as the Cabinet Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs and as the Minister of State of Surface Transport from March 1998 to April 1999.Thambidurai won the Lok Sabha elections from Karur in Tamil Nadu in 2014 and was elected as the member of Parliament. Since then, he has been serving as the leader of AIADMK in Lok Sabha since 2009.

After his resignation, the caretaker CM O. Panneerselvam said on Wednesday that after assuming the position, he experienced a lot of pain and was targeted and humiliated by the party. He added that he has continued to occupy his post as the Union government had asked him to do so after his resignation. Panneerselvam lashed out at the party people and said, “To be a TN CM is a huge task but at each and every step, humiliation was carried out by the insiders who were close to me.”
