This Diwali, the Delhi police have to comply with a uniques directive by the commissioner. Delhi Police commissioner in an order has directed all the officers to make sure that during this festival season no one reaches their seniors’ homes “with or without gifts or flowers”. Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik in a circular issued from the police headquarters on Tuesday has mentioned that “officers/men not to visit the residence of any of their seniors with or without gifts or even flowers bouquets on the occasion of Deepawali”, Indian Express reported.
This directive has been issued to all the districts heads, additional commissioners, joint commissioners and special commissioners of police, sources said. According to police sources, visiting houses of senior officers with gifts is a common festival practice in the force. Allegedly this is done in order to pease the seniors to get lucrative postings. A police officer told The Indian Express that the step was taken to discourage this practice and maintain a conduct.
It is also being said that the directive has been issued to keep a check on such activities and if anyone is seen indulging in such acts, actions will be taken accordingly. Sources said the order also states that “contravention of the instructions would be viewed adversely”.
