British Prime Minister David Cameron today took a diplomatic stand when posed a question on a ban on Prime Minister Narendra Modi two years ago that barred him from entering the UK and said that he was pleased to welcome him as the latter comes with an enormous mandate from the people of India.
“I’m pleased to welcome Prime Minister Modi here. He comes with an enormous mandate from the people of India who made him the Prime Minister with a record and historic majority,” Cameron said answering the question at a joint press conference at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
Cameron refrained from commenting at length on the issue and said that as far as Prime Minister Modi’s past was concerned, legal proceedings took place.
“As for what happened in the past, there were legal proceedings, there were also representations from the British Government at the time,” Cameron said.
