Dhanteras 2016: Dhantrayodashi Puja or commonly known as Dhanteras is the first day of the five day long Diwali festivals. On the day of Dhantrayodashi, Goddess Lakshmi came out of the ocean during the churning of the Milky Sea. Hence, Goddess Lakshmi, along with Lord Kubera who is the God of wealth, is worshiped on the auspicious day of Trayodashi. However, Lakshmi Puja on Amavasya after two days of Dhantrayodashi is considered more significant.

As per English calender, this years Dhanteras falls on Friday, October 28. Below are the specific timing considered ideal for offering prayers and worships:

Dhanteras Puja Muhurta = 17:35 to 18:20 *(without sthir lagna)
Duration = 0 Hours 45 Mins, Pradosh Kaal = 17:35 to 20:11 Vrishabha Kaal = 18:35 to 20:30
Trayodashi Tithi Starts = 16:15 on 27/Oct/2016
