Deoghar temple stampede: Jharkhand govt suspends DC, SP

The Jharkhand government on Monday suspended Deoghar's Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Civil Surgeon and Regional Deputy Director in the light of the temple stampede where at least 10 people were killed and 20 others injured.

According to reports, the order to this effect was issued by Home Secretary N.N. Pandey.

The temple stampede took place early this morning close to a temple of Goddess Durga, where thousands had lined up for a ritual.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident and instructed Chief Minister Raghuwar Das over telephone to speed up the relief measures.

“Pained at loss of lives due to the stampede in Jharkhand. My thoughts & prayers are with the families of the deceased in this hour of grief,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

“I pray that the injured recover quickly. I spoke to CM Raghubar Das ji on the incident,” he added.
