Shiv Sena on Saturday spoke about the demonitisation and supported Congress leader and leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad. Azad was facing attacks from the BJP for comparing deaths after demonetisation to the deaths in Uri terror attack. The Bhartiya Janata Party had earlier asked Azad to apologise for his remarks but the latter had declined the demand.

On Saturday, Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana’ asked “Will the truth change if Azad apologises?” on its editorial page. The article says that in the Uri attack, 20 jawans had been killed, whereas ‘4 brave patriots’ have been killed due to demonetisation, while standing in queues outside banks and ATMs. The article says that there as a difference in both the attacks. In Uri, ‘Pakistan’ had attacked us, whereas demonetisation was created by our own rulers.

Saamna further states that the government would still remain adamant if the number of victims due to inflation, recession and unemployment rises from 40 to 40 lakh and say that the dead were ‘victims of patriotism’. A time would come when the entire country would have to be declared a martyr, the article reads. Shiv Sena is an ally of the ruling BJP government at the centre. Earlier on Thursday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackrey and is expected to have spoken about the NDA’s unhappiness at Shiv Sena’s participation in the anti-demonetisation march.
