Mayawati once again slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the demonetisation step. The Bahujan samaj Party (BSP) supremo on Saturday blamed PM Modi for taking the step to ban high-value currency notes just to cover his weaknesses. She further claimed that the step has left about 90 percent population of India cash-starved and a “bharat-bandh” like situation had been created.
PM Modi spoke in his address during the Parivartan Rally in Morodabad said clearly that he had taken the demonetisation step to benefit the common people of the nation. He said that the step will stash black money from the economy and will help in fighting corruption up to root it out from the society. Soon after the event, Mayawati held a press conference and targetted him on the issue.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayawati said that his party was completely against black money but she did not support the Centre’s step to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. Turning to PM Modi, she said the PM has taken the decision to divert the attention of the people from his weaknesses that would have otherwise been taken into notice. “There is a personal political gain behind the step. He is promoting cashless economy in a time when over 90 percent of people has become poor due to the demonetisation” she said.
She further claimed that the demonetisation had left the people with massive cash crunch and assured that her party understood their grieves. “We are a party of poor people and minority and we feel the pain that they are going through at this point of time,” she added.
