Demonetisation: Yoga guru Ramdev has taken a break from talking up PM Narendra Modi’s demotetisation drive, but that is only to slam the alleged wrongdoing by banking staff across a nmber of lenders. Ramdev suggests something is amiss suggested by hundreds of crores worth new currency notes seized by police. He suggests black money holders and banks may well have shaken hands and come together to convert the black money into white. Baba Ramdev lashed out by saying, “Mujhe aashanka hai ki bohot se kaale dhan ke karobariyon ne bank walo ke saath saanth-gaath karke apne kaale dhan ko safed karaya hai.” Though Baba Ramdev lauded government’s decision to demonetise high value bank notes in an effort to fight illegal wealth generators.

On the other hand, government has also become alert against all the malpractices. So when the incidents came up where the investigative agencies seized the of large amounts of unexplained old and new high-value currency notes, the finance ministry on Sunday directed all public sector banks (PSBs) to strictly maintain complete records of deposits by customers in old notes as well as new ones.

Post-demonetisation, old currency notes were permitted to be deposited in bank accounts, and till November 24 and exchange of old currency notes to a specified limit was also permitted.

According to the RBI, nearly Rs 12 lakh crore out of Rs 15.4 lakh crore of old high denomination currency notes have come back to the banking system, as per the report of NDTV, since PM Modi scrapped the legal tender of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from the midnight of November 8 to fight the menace of black money.
