Making a significant improvement from the previous year’s rating, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has been ranked world’s second best airport, which handle more than 40 million passengers annually, according to a global survey. Delhi International Airport Limited’s (DIAL’s) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) score increased from 4.96 in 2015 to 4.99 in 2016, helping it attain the second position globally, only after Incheon in South Korea, according to a press statement. Elated over the achievement, Prabhakara Rao, CEO, DIAL, said that focus has always been on enhancing customer’s experience. Meanwhile, the authority has plans to take it further, as the officials said, “We are now geared to undertake the expansion works at Delhi Airport. IGIA Master Plan-2016 will further enhance the experience of our passengers and create a new benchmark for the aviation community worldwide,”. However, the authority sought support of stakeholders and passengers in the task. “As we witness robust growth, we look forward to strong collaboration and support of airport stakeholders as well as our passengers,” said Rao.

Meanwhile, GMR’s Hyderabad International Airport has secured first position in the world in the prestigious Airports Council International (ACI)-ASQ survey in the 5-15 million passengers per annum (MPPA) category for the year 2016. The survey shows that Hyderabad Airport has steadily improved its score from 4.4 in 2009 to 4.9 in 2016 (measured on scale of 1 to 5), according to a GHIAL statement. S G K Kishore, CEO, GHIAL, thanked the passengers and its stakeholders including Ministry of Civil Aviation, CISF, airlines, immigration and customs. “The immense efforts put in by our partner airlines, concessionaires, housekeeping and other support staff have played a major role in this achievement”, he said.

As the industry’s most comprehensive passenger service benchmarking tool, it has reliably captured passengers’ immediate appraisal from check-in through departure at the gate at more than 300 airports worldwide, it was stated. The ASQ award ceremony will be held at the 27th ACI Africa/World Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition in Port Louis, Mauritius from 16-18 October, it said.
