Delhi University elections: ABVP wins President, Vice President and Secretary post; NSUI manages Joint Secretary

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won the positions of President, Vice President & Secretary following Delhi University elections.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won the positions of President, Vice President & Secretary following Delhi University elections. Amit Tanwar from ABVP will be the new President, defeating Nikhil Yadav from NSUI and Kawalpreet Kaur from AISA. While Priyanka Chabri has been elected as the Vice President, Ankit Sangwan will be the Secretary. Both of them are from ABVP. NSUI’s Mohit Sangwan has been elected as the Joint Secretary. The university of Delhi is a politically active institution and elections began on September 9, for the four posts. Chief Election Commissioner for the Delhi University polls had said that 17 candidates were competing for the posts of President, Vice President & Secretary in the Delhi University Students’ Union. Out of them, 7 candidates were battling out for the post of President and 4 were vying for the post of Vice-President. For the post of Secretary and Joint Secretary, there were three contestants.

The votes were scheduled to be counted and results to be declared today on September 10. In the last year’s elections too, ABVP which is affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), won all the four posts by big margins. The NSUI had claimed that this year it was a close fight and that they were confident of winning. Last year NSUI which is affiliated to Congress, All India Students’ Association (AISA), affiliated to the Communist Party of India and Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), affiliated to the Delhi’s ruling party Aam Aadmi Party, all were defeated by ABVP. CYSS which was contesting the elections for the first time last year, could not win and seats and did not contest the elections this year.
