As per the complaint, the incident occurred when the woman was visiting Delhi on a tourist visa in March 2016. As per the report, the woman hired a travel agency guide on hotel staff’s recommendation. The guide took her to a city tour. One day, while the lady was in her room, the guide offered to discuss a route plan and came with his four friends . The five men went up to her room and had a few drinks together, following which the guide forced himself on her.
Others then then took turns to rape her as well. The woman immediately left India and went back to United States after the incident. In her complaint, woman said that she didn’t tell her family about the incident, and went into depression. Traumatised by the incident, the lady later approached a lawyer friend of hers, who recommended her to approach an NGO on India affairs. On the advise of NGO officials, the woman registered complaint with Delhi police via e-mail, which was later transferred to Connaught Place police station.
