Delhi Police has raided a casino illegally operating in a farmhouse and arrested 30 people including 12 businessmen in this connection on Tuesday night. The 13-acre farmhouse on Dera Mandi road in South Delhi was also used for TV shows shooting. During the raid, police seized 13 luxury cars, as per NDTV. The police said 14 people were caught gambling in the house while five women were working in the casino and bar.
Police has also seized a large number of casino chips, hookahs, gambling tables, playing cards and liquors — Chivas Regal, 24 bottles of Black Label and 12 bottles of Teachers whisky– from the spot. Among the arrested were a dozen businessmen, dealers and organisers from Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, as per ToI.
In India casinos are illegal except for Goa, Sikkim and Daman, the report added. The Times of India reported, when the farmhouse was not used as a set, it turned into a secret casino where the rich and mighty of Delhi and NCR played for high stakes. Police said the organisers had employed female bar-tenders from Kathmandu. Investigations revealed that word of mouth and a closed Whatsapp group called “friends” was used to convey messages about date and time of events.
Earlier on 24th October, South District police had raided an illegal casino in the Sainik Farm area of the national capital and arrested 36 persons.
