A fire broke out in a residential building in Delhi’s Burari on Thursday. As per the reports, a 21-year-old man was killed and three others injured in the fire. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and rescued people living on the ground and the upper floor. The injured were rushed to a hospital. The deceased was identified as Sandeep who while reaching the hospital was declared dead by the doctors, the police said. Meanwhile, other three people who were injured are being treated.

A Delhi Fire Service official was quoted as saying that the fire was reported around 4 in the morning in a building at Santnagar Burrari. A police official said that the fire broke out in the garage on the ground floor which was rented out as a room by the owner of the building. The official added the fire has been doused by fire tenders. The victim and the injured were residing on the ground floor, the official said. The first floor of the house was occupied by the owner and the other two floors have been let out to students from Uttar Pradesh. Although the students rushed down to escape when the fire started, but Sandeep panicked and ran upstairs where he was trapped in smoke. Before the fire fighters could rescue him, he had died of suffocation and was declared dead while reaching the hospital.

Meanwhile, the investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire and whether there were any lapses in fire safety measures in the building.
