Delhi lawyer who fought election against Sonia Gandhi receives threat letter; abusive language against BJP used

A lawyer who fought 2014 Lok Sabha election against Congress president Sonia Gandhi has claimed that he has received a threat letter, news agency PTI reported. The name of this lawyer is Ajay Kumar Agarwal and he is a Supreme Court lawyer. A police complaint has been filed by Ajay Kumar Agarwal claiming that he has received a letter threatening to kill him. He fought 2014 Lok Sabha election against Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli in UP.

Agarwal said he received the handwritten threat letter on Friday afternoon, following which the complaint was filed at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station.

What’s there in the threat letter?

“The letter written in Hindi used filthy and abusive language against me and BJP national leaders. The letter writer also threatened to kill me,” he said, as per a report in PTI.

Agarwal had polled 1,73,721 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. He was defeated by Sonia Gandhi by a margin of about 3.52 lakh votes.

The letter was sent to Agarwal at his residence-cum-office in Jangpura Extension in south east Delhi. It was received by one of his office staff members around 1 PM yesterday. Police said a case of criminal intimidation has been registered and the investigation is on.
