Delhi court grants bail to RK Pachauri; allows him to travel to US, Mexico for a month

Former The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri) chief RK Pachauri, who is facing a trial for alleged sexual harassment of a female colleague, has been allowed to travel abroad by a Delhi court.

Pachauri has been granted the permission to travel abroad to Mexico and the United States from July 12 to August 14.

Metropolitan magistrate Shivani Chauhan also granted a regular bail to Pachauri. So far, the environmentalist was out on an anticipatory bail granted by a local court on March 21, 2015.

“In these circumstances, the accused (Pachauri) is permitted to travel as per his itinerary from July 12 to August 14,” the court said.

The court took the note that Pachauri had compiled with conditions set by court when he traveled abroad on earlier occasions.

The 75-year-old scientist could face jail term of up to seven years if charges framed against are proved true.

Last year, an FIR was filed against Pachauri in connection with alleged sexual harassment in the case. The police had submitted the charge sheet against the Pachauri earlier this year.
