The Delhi-bound SpiceJet was delayed today for more than six hours at the Pune airport due to due to technical reasons. As per ANI report, the delay has been caused due to the problem in the windshield. The airline has come out with a statement saying that required spare parts has reached the airport and the airport and the maintenance work is on. It further said that some passengers have been shifted to other flights.

Last Sunday, Jet Airways Boeing-777 flight was caught in an alleged hijack drama after it lost contact with the authorities on the ground for a brief period of time that created panic and caused authorities to scramble jet fighters to locate and escort the aircraft. Following a communication failure, when it was unable to establish contact with the Indian aircraft, Cologne air traffic control officials alerted the German Air Force, which in turn scrambled two fighter jets.

The Jet Airways flight 9W-118, which left on Thursday (the incident happened three days back), was going from Mumbai to London and was flying over Cologne city in Germany. German Air Force fighters first located the plane and thereafter escorted the Jet Airways flight till the flight managed to establish contact with the ATC. Thereafter, the emergency was called off by the authorities concerned and the Indian aircraft was allowed to continue to London.

A statement by Jet Airways stated that contact between the flight was briefly lost and that the German Air Force, concerned over the safety of the flight, deployed its fighter planes only as a precautionary measure.

“Contact between Jet Airways flight 9W 118, from Mumbai to London Heathrow, on February 16, 2017, and the local ATC was briefly lost while flying over German airspace. As a precaution, the German Air Force deployed its aircraft to ensure the safety of the flight and its guests. Communication was safely restored within a few minutes,” a Jet Airways statement here said.
