Lamba, leading the AAP charge on the EVM tampering issue, questioned as to why 5,000 of these machines were brought from Rajasthan for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Alka Lamba on Tuesday questioned the Election Commission on why it was not accepting the demands of demonstrating how EVMs can be tampered with. Lamba, leading the AAP charge on the EVM tampering issue, questioned as to why 5,000 of these machines were brought from Rajasthan for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. She questioned EC’s intention behind using old VVPATs despite the availability of new ones too. “There were 13,000 polling booths in Delhi and we were told that the state election commission had 15,000 EVMs. When there were 2,000 more EVMs than what was required, why were 5,000 EVMs brought from Rajasthan,” Lamba asked.
Citing an incident during MCD elections, Lamba claimed that at the Tughalaqabad ward, 3 EVM seals were found broken. She further claimed that 26,445 votes were polled in Chhatarpur ward, while the EVM counted 26,884 votes and the AAP candidate lost by just 2 votes.
Alka claimed that Bharatiya Janata Party has tampered EVMs in an organised manner. She claimed that the saffron party didn’t tamper all EVM machines, but made sure that they win elections.
“We were also asked that if EVMs were tampered, why BJP didn’t win all the states. I want to say that the people tampering with EVMs are very smart. They won’t tamper EVMs in every state because if they do, they will be caught,” she said. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Vijender Gupta was marshalled out on the orders of the Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. Gupta was marshalled out after he was given repeated warnings by the Speaker for disrupting the proceedings.
