A day after underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar was arrested along with his two accomplices, the Thane court sent all three to eight days police custody, ANI reported. The three were arrested by Thane Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) after a complaint of extortion was filed by a builder at the Kasarvadavali police station.
Speaking to Indian Express, an officer had earlier said that Kaskar had taken four houses from the builder illegally and was demanding more. “The builder had approached Kaskar in the past to settle a dispute pertaining to a plot, in lieu of which he demanded four houses from the builder, which he obliged. However, when Kaskar recently asked for one more property, the builder approached the Thane police and lodged a complaint,” the paper quoted the officer as saying.
After the builder filed a complaint, the police raided Kaskar’s Gordon Hall apartment in Nagpada area of Mumbai. Before his arrest, a Quick Response Team had cordoned off the building. Kaskar had recently shifted to the apartment, which belonged to her late sister Haseena Parkar, after a building recently collapsed in Bhendi Bazar. He used to stay in neighbouring Damarwala building and left it soon after the collapse.

This wasn’t the first time when Kaskar was arrested in an extortion case. Almost two years back, he was arrested by Mumbai police after an estate agent filed a complaint claiming that Kaskar and his men had asked for Rs 3 lakh after thrashing him. The incident reportedly occurred in Pakmodia Street, where the Damarwala building is situated and is also Dawood Ibrahim’s last known address. Before fleeing in 1986, the criminal wanted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case reportedly stayed in this building along with his family, Indian Express added.
