Cyclone Vardah: Amma canteens open in Chennai, provide food for free

While Cyclone Vardah is bringing trouble to the residents in affected areas of Tamil Nadu, AIADMK is providing food for free in Amma canteens.

Cyclone Vardah has hit North region of Chennai and making landfall causing severe damage in the region. While the natural disaster is bringing trouble to the residents in affected areas of Tamil Nadu, AIADMK is providing food for free in Amma canteens. The canteens introduced by late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa are open throughout the city and providing food for free of cost to everyone, said All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Monday. The party shared the information on its official Twitter account. It further assured people that they are serving to them round the clock and asked to contact them in case of any help needed.

“People in need of any help – Feel free to DM us. We are here 24*7 to serve you in the best way possible”, the tweet read. The party later claimed to receive 64 complaints through DM (direct message). Out of which. it solved 31 so far and working hard to fix rest.

Besides food. AIADMK also assured proper milk supply from Tuesday. The party quoting state government posted “Aavin milk supply will be as usual from tomorrow – TN Government .” It has also issued a list of Do’s and Don’ts asking people to “remain calm” in the prevailing circumstances.

Since the morning, the state is witnessing heavy rainfall followed by strong wind that has caused severe damage in the affected areas. The situation worsened after the cyclone hit Chennai with the deaths of two people. Taking note of the prevailing circumstances, the movement at Chennai airport has been suspended till 6pm. The movement of Chennai Suburban railway network has also been suspended till further notice. Several trains reaching and leaving Chennai have been diverted and cancelled concerning the cyclone.

Earlier today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselval hold a meeting with officials of government agencies to revitheir preparednessess to face Cyclone Vardah.
