Following a report submitted by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of NEEPCO, Satish Verma, in July this year, alleging union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and his cousin for having involvement in a graft case, Congress today claimed that they have audio proof against the Union Minister and asked for his resignation.

Claiming the proof of graft against Rijiju, in a statement to the media, Congress spokesperson R S Surjewala said, “Kiren Rijiju’s role in this issue is under a cloud of suspicion. So he should be sacked or asked to resign till probe is complete.”

With alleged charges of corruption in the construction of two dams for Kameng Hydro Electric Project, CVO Satish Verma, in July, had named Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, his cousin Goboi Rijiju, a contractor in Arunachal Pradesh and several officials of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), including its Chairman and Managing Director, in a 129-page report sent to theCBI, CVC and the Ministry of Power. The report by the vigilance officer, on the corruption in the construction of one of the biggest hydro-electric projects in Arunachal Pradesh, suggests a defraud of NEEPCO and government fund of an amount ‘up to Rs 450 crore’.

According to reports by Verma, there were misuse of funds through several fake and inflated bills for the transportation of rocks for the construction of the two dams. Also, the transport chalans and records by Patel Engineering Limited was also alleged to be fake. Soon after the report, Verma had been transferred to the CRPF in Tripura.

However, Kiren Rijiju had denied of any involvement in the graft case and claimed the charges against him to had been planted mischievously.
