A shocking news has been reported from Mumbai. Congress leader Mahadev Maruti Shelar allegedly committed suicide.
Senior Maharashtra Congress leader Mahadev Shelar allegedly committed suicide at his residence in suburban Mulund on Saturday, news agency PTI reports. Shelar, a former general secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence at around 2.30 pm, a senior police official said, as per PTI. The official added that 64-year-old Shelar’s wife had gone to the market when the incident took place. She found him hanging upon her return to home.
The Congress leader was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, he said. The Police have recovered a suicide note from the spot, and as per the preliminary investigation, his illness seems to be the reason that drove him to take the extreme step, another official was reported as saying. A case of accidental death has been registered and police are further probing the matter. The report says that Shelar was a lawyer by profession and known for his calm nature among the party workers.
Akhilesh Singh, a senior police official, said that Shelar was a diabetic and was suffering from BP also, and as per his suicide note, he was depressed about it. Shelar has not blamed anybody for his decision, CNN News 18 reports. The Congress leader has been survived by wife, son and daughter.
