Committee set up to examine role of North Eastern Council

The Development of North Eastern Region(DoNER) Ministry has set up a committee to examine the role and functions of North Eastern Council (NEC), the nodal agency for social and economic development in the region, parliament was told on Wednesday.

"The Committee is required to consult the state governments in the Northeast in preparation of its report, which would, also cover the issue of up-gradation and restructuring of the North Eastern Council," DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha in an written reply.
