More than a week after Supreme Court granted bail to Colonel SK Purohit in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, he has doned his uniform for the first time since reporting back to the army, ANI said. According to PTI, Colonel Purohit had reported to the liasoning unit of the Army’s Southern Command in Mumbai on August 23. As per Indian Express, the army had earlier said that Colonel Purohit would join a unit after his release would not be given any active duty. His reinstatement would be with certain conditions. The details would be finalised after the Army headquarters studies the order of the Supreme Court on the conditional bail.
At the time when Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS arrested him in the case, Colonel purohit was working with the Southern Command Liaison Unit (SCLU) of Military Intelligence and was also doing a course in Arabic language at the Army Education Corps Training College and Centre at Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh. Before undergoing the course, Colonel Purohit was posted at Devlali in Nashik as part of his deputation with the SCLU. After his arrest Colonel Purohit put under suspension, Indian Express added.

Earlier on August 21, the Supreme Court bench of Justices RK Agrawal and AM Sapre granted him bail, saying they were setting aside the order of Bombay High Court denying bail to Colonel Purohit. While announcing its bail order, the top court had also said imposed certain conditions on Colonel Purohit, PTI said. At least seven people were killed ina blast at Mlegaon in 2008, a town in Nashik district of north Maharashtra, the agency added.
