Coimbatore: Man murdered over ‘anti-Muslim’ Facebook post; link to Bengaluru bomb blast convict suspected

A daily wage worker and a member of DVK, H Farook, was murdered near Coimbatore over his Facebook post.

A daily wage worker and a member of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam(DVK), H Farook, was murdered near Coimbatore over his Facebook post. Farook who belonged to pro- Periyar rationalist group was hacked to death for spreading anti-religious sentiments via his social media post. According to the reports, Farook was attacked by 4 unidentified man belonging to a banned radical group. The suspect, M Ansath, a 30-year old Muslim realtor has surrendered before the judicial magistrate but police is looking for Bengaluru bomb blast accused Saddam Hussain and Shamsuddin and other people who may be connected to the case.

Police has claimed that the members behind the murder were a part of a radical groups banned a decade ago. The group has also been sending threats to Farook for his anti-religion posts and atheism considering him to have deviated from the path of faith.

According to the police, Farook was attacked near his house and his cries attracted the attention of the locals but they failed to catch the assailants. “Farook’s anti-Muslim sentiments had angered people. This may be the possible motive behind his murder,” said S Saravanan, Deputy commissioner of police.

Farook was an ‘administrator’ of a Whatsapp group and one of his recent rationalist Facebook posts had attracted a lot of criticism.
