Police said unidentified people hurled stones at the volunteers of the rally. The incident took place on the Mathura-Bareilly highway. Additional DG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said several people have been detained for interrogation. Action will be taken against those responsible for the proper investigation.” Kumar added, it seems the (stone pelting) incident was not pre-planned, but a spontaneous one.
Kasganj District Magistrate R P Singh said, One person died during arson, firing and stone pelting, while two others sustained injuries today. The deceased has been identified as Chandan (16). Curfew has been imposed in the city.” The district magistrate, superintendent of police, Rapid Action Force and PAC personnel have been sent to the spot.
According to reports, the incident unfolded when Tiranga Yatra group reached Baddu Nagar locality where some people objected to the procession. Baddu Nagar is an area dominated by the minority. After a heated argument, the two section of people clashed with each other which resulted in the destruction of vehicles and vandalism. IG Aligarh (range) Sanjeev Gupta said that he have sought additional forces from adjoining districts.
Meanwhile, an indefinite curfew clamped in Maibang area in Dima Hasao district of Assam continued today even as the two persons injured in yesterday’s violence succumbed to injuries. The 48-hour Dima Hasao district bandh was called by a number of groups to protest yesterday’s police firing. The groups have also demanded a written statement from the government on the ‘Nagalim’ issue in the context of the hill district.
The bandh has paralysed normal life in this central Assam district. “Two persons have died since yesterday. While one person died on the way to hospital in Guwahati, the other succumbed this morning,” a senior government official said. Mitunjoy Dibragede (33) died on the way. Probanta Hakmaosa (27) lost his life at the GNRC Hospital this morning, the official added.
