Unrest in Kashmir Valley continued as clashes broke out between security personnel and protesters in Kashmir’s Shopian district after an ongoing search operation led to the hurling stones of at them by miscreants. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Chillipora village in Shopian district after receiving information about the presence of armed militants there. This followed an overnight operation in Shopian being called off two days ago after some militants managed to flee an encounter site. The police forces had to use tear smoke shells to confront hundreds of protesters who stormed the operation site.

The youths surrounded the site in a village in Pulwama district. According to Jammu and Kashmir Police they formed a cordon jointly with the army to launch a search operation in Hafoo area of Tral in Pulwama, where as per inputs, some militants were hiding.
An official who was manning the police control room in Awantipora, said, “As soon as they launched the cordon, encounter started with militants hiding in a house.” He was also witness to heavy stone pelting in that area. He also said that they had to deal simultaneously with militants and stone-pelters.
