Chopper fares to Vaishno Devi shrine comes down from today

The helicopter fares to popular Hindu shrine Vaishnodevi in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district have become cheaper from today.

The helicopter fares to popular Hindu shrine Vaishnodevi in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district have become cheaper from today. The Board governing the cave shrine on Friday decided to slash the cost of chopper services along with other initiatives to provide improved services to the pilgrims. From Saturday, the one-way passenger fare for heli-travel between Katra and Sanjichhat has now become Rs 1,077 per passenger as against the fare of Rs 1,170 per passenger existing earlier. This fare is inclusive of all taxes. With this, the helicopter fare for Katra-Sanjichhat and return has become less than it was in the past three years.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board Ajeet Kumar Sahu, as part of the endeavour to provide improved services to the pilgrims visiting the shrine, the Board has been taking many initiatives including slashing of chopper fare from April 1, 2017. The CEO said the contract has been awarded to the two successful bidders – Global Vectra Helicorp Ltd and Himalayan Heli Services Pvt Ltd for operation of chopper services in the Katra-Sanjichhat-Katra Sector. These two operators have been providing heli-services to the pilgrims for the past three years (2014-17).

The cave shrine Vaishnodevi located on the Trikuta hills attracts a huge number of pilgrims, especially during the ongoing Navratra festival. Looking at this, the shrine board has made elaborate arrangements for the security and convenience of the devotees. These arrangements include ensuring proper water and power supply along the track leading to the shrine, sanitation and availability of special fast related food at the Bhojanalayas of the shrine board, said Sahu.

The board has also ensured mesaures for cleanliness and launched a special sanitation drive on the track and in the Bhawan area for ensuring utmost sanitation and cleanliness. This cleanliness drive is in addition to the normal sanitation activities of the shrine board which include maintaining sanitation along the entire track and various establishments of it.
