Chennai floods: Now, 34 Singapore flights cancelled as Chennai airport closed

Chennai floods are continuing to disrupt flights to and from rain-hit city with Chennai airport closed till the 6th of December. 16 flights to and 18 arriving from Chennai were listed as cancelled at Singapore’s Changi airport here today in wake of the worst floods that has affected normal life in the Indian state, according to the airport website.

Yesterday, 14 flights to and from Chennai airport were cancelled, media reports said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a travel notice yesterday, advising Singaporeans to postpone non-essential travel as Chennai floods have made travel impossible.

“Singaporeans already in Chennai are advised to stay in doors and take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety at all times,” The Straits Times reported.

Singaporeans travelling to or living in Chennai are encouraged to register with the ministry.

With Chennai airport closed after inundation, Navy’s base at Arakkonam is serving as the makeshift airport for supplying relief material as well as for bringing in National Disaster Response Force teams.
