A residence in the posh area of Chandigarh, Sector 10, saw a low-intensity explosion on Wednesday night. “There was a loud sound. Some pressure type low-intensity blast took place because of which some windows and pots were damaged,” the Chandigarh SSP said.

Police said that the owner claimed that two people in an auto-rickshaw threw a grenade. They stated that while there were no casualties, the incident did damage some windows and pots maintained in the garden. The police are currently conducting an investigation to find out the cause of the blast.

Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kanwardeep Kaur, and other police officers arrived at the residence to assess the situation at approximately 5:30 p.m. after the blast.

Teams from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory and the bomb detection squad also arrived at the location to collect samples.

The SSP further said that the complainant had claimed that two people had arrived in an autorickshaw and thrown a grenade at the residence. “The complainants were sitting on the verandah of the house. They saw the suspects,” the police officer said, adding efforts were on to trace the vehicle.

A CCTV camera installed nearby captured images of the explosion and the autorickshaw. According to the SSP, they are looking into the possibility that the event was caused by personal enmity.

When asked if the report that a grenade was thrown at the residence was true, she replied, “We are looking into it. There was an explosion, and the cause is being looked into.”
