Trouble mounts for Haryana’s former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raid at his residence on Saturday in connection with the illegal release of land at Manesar, Gurgaon.

CBI raids were carried out in 19 other locations. Apart from Hooda, former Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister (PSCM) ML Tayal and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Member Chattar Singh’s residence was raided.

Earlier, a criminal case was lodged against the then Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government in Haryana for questionable allotment of coveted industrial plots in Panchkula’s Industrial Estate.

In September, 2015, CBI was put in charge to investigate an alleged illegal land allotment case in which private companies acquired 400 acres of land in prime locations of Manesar, Naurangpur and Lakhnoula in Gurgaon with the help of government officials. The land’s worth of Rs 1,600 crore was reduced to Rs 100 crore for the convenience of the builders, allegedly.

Haryana government’s role in the allocation has been questioned, and often criticized.
