The Allahabad High Court on Monday asked the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government to file the response over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the matter of the Bulandshar gangrape. The High Court, on Monday, took Suo moto cognizance of the Bulandshahr rape case after the two accused were sent to police custody by a fast track court. The brutal gangrape on Highway 91 in Uttar Pradesh had brought people to the streets in protesting in anger against the incident and the lawlessness in the state. Political leaders from around the nation had condemned the attack and asked for quick actions, including a CBI investigation. Bahujan Samajwadi Party Chief Mayawati had gone on to ask for the CM’s resignation. The issue of lawlessness has risen in the state under the current regime, she had said. UP minister Azam Khan had later called the incident a political agenda aimed at sabotage of the government.
Following the incident 15 officials including SSP Bulandshahr Vaibhav Kishan. Anees Ansari was appointed the SSP in his place. The perpetrators were identified as men from the nomadic Bawariya tribe, natives of Rajasthan, who have now spread over UP, Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Police officials who have worked on cases such as this said that these men have been committing these crimes for centuries and their modus operandi is similar to the Bulandshahr case.
The incident happened, when a gang of dacoits pulled out the family of their car and raped the 35-year old woman along with her 14-year old daughter, while the men of the family were tied up to a tree and beaten up mercilessly. The family of the victims had earlier threatened to commit suicide if they were not delivered justice within a period of 3 months.
