Kolkata Airport Bomb Threat: An IndiGo aircraft was moved abruptly into isolation on Saturday morning after crew members received a bomb threat during boarding at Kolkata airport. The incident also comes a day after Hyderabad airport led a thorough search after receiving a hoax email warning about a blast timed to the arrival of a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain.
“Bomb scare in Kolkata to Shillong IndiGo 6E3074, which was scheduled to depart at 9:15 am from Kolkata Airport. The aircraft has been moved to the isolation bay. During boarding, crew members found a piece of paper inside the aircraft’s toilet compartment, which stated that there was a bomb inside the aircraft. Immediately afterwards, passengers were removed from the aircraft. Checking process is going on,” news agency ANI quoted the airport director as saying.
Nearly identical incidents have been reported on multiple IndiGo flights over the past few weeks — triggering emergency landings and security scans. A similar handwritten note was also found in the lavatory of a flight after it landed in Pune from Delhi on January 23.
Aircraft searched in isolation bay
According to an official statement quoted by PTI, the discovery was made before passengers boarded IndiGo flight 6E 7304. The Airports Authority of India said the handwritten note was discovered inside the lavatory by one of the crew members in the morning.
“The aircraft has been moved to the isolation bay, and all precautionary measures as per standard operating procedure are being taken,” the statement added.
An AAI spokesperson quoted by the publication added that the plane was being thoroughly searched — but that nothing had been found so far.
