At least 19 people died at Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh after a boat capsized in the river Yamuna, as per district magistrate Bhawani Singh. According to news agency ANI, in the morning, the boat was carrying over 60 people, when it capsized suddenly leading to the mishap. On getting the information, police reached the spot and started the rescue operation. As many as 12 people have been reportedly rescued till the report came. The reason for the incident has not yet been identified. In another tragedy today, six people drowned in river Ganga in Maranchi, Bihar, reported ANI. Rescue operations are underway at both the spots under the supervision of cops.
In view of the boat capsize incident in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of those dead in the tragedy, as per ANI.
President Ram Nath Kovind has offered condolence to those who died in the boat tragedy. “Sad to hear about Baghpat boat tragedy. Heartfelt condolences to bereaved families. Wishing quick recovery to those rescued,” posted the President on Twitter.
