BMC Election Results 2017: In an interesting turn of events, the winner between Shiv Sena’s sitting corporator Surendra Bagalkar and BJP spokesperson and candidate Atul Shah from ward number 220 was decided by a lottery. Initially, Bagalkar was declared the winner but after objection recounting of votes was done which revealed that both candidates had won the equal number of votes. After which the civic Chief has headed to the counting centre where the winner will be decided through the lottery. Chits with the names of both candidates were put and BJP”s Atul Bagalkar was declared the winner.

Shiv Sena was declared the winner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Elections 2017 with 84, while its bitter allies, the Bhartiya Janata Party came mighty close with 81 seats of its own. There was a lot at stake for both Shiv Sena and the BJP, two saffron allies for over 20 years, who have been going through a fallout. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had openly criticised the BJP government in the state under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation scheme. For the most part of the day, it looked as if the Shiv Sena would run away with an absolute majority for more time but BJP changed gears towards the end of the day and raced to 82 seats. Although, since none of the parties gained the required 114 seats to reach an absolute majority, the picture still remains unclear as to who will take over the reigns of the richest Municipal corporation in the world.
