Kiran Bedi, who recently joined BJP, today rebutted Congress’s allegations that she used Anna Hazare to fulfil her political ambitions, and said being with the anti-corruption crusader was the “right thing to do” at that time.
“That is not my habit. My nature is to never use anybody and neither get used… I never used and never got used… I do what is ethically right at the moment,” Bedi told reporters, when asked about Congress leader Ajay Maken’s allegations that she and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal were “opportunists of the first order”.
Maken, who is the Congress’s campaign chief for Delhi polls, earlier today alleged that both Kejriwal and Bedi furthered their political ambitions behind the back of Anna Hazare, who spearheaded the anti-corruption movement.
“At that time, being with Anna was the right thing to do because India was into a morass of corruption, it was into scams and scams and it had to be spoken out to save our country. And I can tell you, that day came the basis of change. Mr Modi came above it and took it forward and I think so rightly,” she said.
Kejriwal and Bedi were part of the core team of activist Anna Hazare who had led a massive agitation to press for the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament. The two had parted ways in 2012 after Kejriwal’s decision to float a political party.
