Bhartiya Janata Party on Monday said that it will soon organise a ‘vishaal dharna’ to pressurise the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government to approach Supreme Court for cancellation of tainted leader Mohammad Shahabuddin’s bail. “Will organize ‘vishaal dharna’ to pressurise state government to approach SC and get Shahabuddin’s bail cancelled,” Sushil Modi was quoted as saying by ANI. It should be noted that Shahabuddin has been a top aide to Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and an arch critic of Nitish Kumar. It’s said that former RJD parliamentarian, who is convicted in 10 cases, was used as a top help by Lalu Prasad Yadav against his political rivals, mainly JDU and BJP who were in an alliance in Bihar for 17 years.
However, in a shocking turn of events in the year 2014, JDU and RJD announced an alliance after the two parties suffered shocking defeat in 2014 General Elections. RJD-JDU once again returned to power as a combined unit in Bihar, and the BJP was left cornered in the state. Now, it is assumed that Shahabuddin, having his clout among the leaders in government, may receive a special treatment from state machinery.
Earlier in the day, BJP said that Shahabuddin’s release is an indication that ‘Jungle-Raj’ is back in Bihar and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has no option, but to sit as a mute spectator. “It’s a matter of great concern that the people of Bihar would not have voted for the return of jungle raj to Bihar and the way Shahabuddin has come out and they kind of language he is using for the Chief Minister,” BJP leader Nalin Kohli was quoted as saying by ANI here.
In a conversation with media after his release, Shahabuddin had called Nitish Kumar a CM of circumstances. The undisputed don of Siwan had said that the leader became the CM because of his alliance with RJD and even compared his condition with that of former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda. Continuing his assault on second day, he said that Nitish Kumar is not his leader.
