Speculations are being made that AICC general secretary and veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath will also join the opposition party (BJP)
Days after former Delhi Congress chief and minister in the Shiela Dikshit cabinet, Arvinder Singh Lovely left the party to join Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), speculations are being made that AICC general secretary and veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath will also join the opposition party (BJP). However, Congress has rejected all the speculations and has accused BJP of running an ugly and ‘malicious whisper’ campaign to defame party’s senior leaders.
“BJP is running a malicious, ugly whisper campaign to malign Congress party’s senior-most leaders. Perhaps they forget that Kamal Nath is not only the senior most parliamentarian, one of the most experienced leaders of the party…but has been the architect of recrafting the strategy and narrative of the Congress party through challenging times. Be it in 1977 to 1980 or be it post 1989 up to the year 2004 and then as part of the government,” The Indian Express quoted Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala as saying. While rejecting all the speculations, he further said, “He continues to serve, and proudly, as a worker as a leader and as a general secretary of the party. We reject completely any such malicious and negative insinuations that the BJP is spreading.”
Earlier, Arvinder Singh Lovely left Congress after the reports of infighting over the choice of candidates for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls came out. While talking to reporters, Singh had said that the sentiments of the senior leaders were hurt by the party and the there is a need to sit down and formulate a plan to make sure that the party wins MCD polls. Veteran Congress leader Dr AK Walia had also submitted his resignation citing the same reasons. He expressed his unhappiness with the list of candidates selected for the MCD polls.
