The name of the next Chief Minister of Gujarat to succeed Anandiben Patel would be announced today. BJP Amit Shah is set to make the announcement at 4 pm at ‘Kamalam’, the party’s headquarters in Gandhinagar. The name will be declared in a meeting of the party’s legislators, including Amit Shah wo arrived on Thursday and held series of one-to-one meetings with state leaders.
Senior Minister Nitin Patel, State BJP chief Vijay Rupani, Gujarat unit-in-charge Dinesh Sharma, organising secretray V Satish and Bhikhubhai Dalasania and Union Minister Purushottam Rupala met Amit Shah on Thursday.
Two central observers appointed by the party’s central parliamentary board — Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and parliamentarian Saroj Pandey — will conduct the process.
The party leadership has not given any indication of any name but the insiders say a senior Cabinet Minister belonging to the Patidar community may take over the reins.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel submitted her resignation on June 2 to Governor OP Kohli in the presence of ministers and party leaders at Raj Bhavan in the evening. Kohli had asked her to continue until the new chief minister takes charge.
