Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Laxmikant Bajpai has been caught on camera threatening police officials in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh for not acting swiftly on a case related to a villager’s death. A video has emerged which shows Bajpai coming with his supporters to the police station and threatening the SHO. Bajpai in the video is threatening the police officials on the murder which took place a week ago. Bajpai was not happy with how the case has proceeded, and accused police officials of trying to defend the culprits by not taking any action against them. He told the officials that if they don’t do anything about the case immediately he will organise a gherao of the police station.
In the video, Bajpai is seen giving the example of a previous episode when a Superintendent of Police (SP) from this police station was badly beaten by a mob. The SP had kicked a hawker’s cart after which he had to face a severe backlash. The people of Meerut were so angered that they removed the clothes of that SP and beat him with lathis and sticks. They also slapped the police officer till his cheeks went red, he said. Some other police officers were also beaten after that, he added. He reminded the police officers in the video if a case is not followed in the right way, people of Meerut can get very angry. So it would be wise if they start working on the murder case of the villager at the earliest, insisted the BJP man.
