Ahead of the counting for Delhi Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) refused to acknowledge the exit poll forecasts that indicated an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) win, today and instead exuded confidence about getting a good result, saying that the feedback from its workers was that it will form the government here.

“BJP is confident of its victory. Exit polls and opinion polls come, but according to the feedback from our workers, Kiran Bedi’s government will be formed in Delhi and BJP workers are behind this victory,” said party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

He said BJP has faith in its workers’ feedback and was thus sure that the party would come to power in Delhi under Kiran Bedi, its chief ministerial candidate.

Exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for AAP with BJP tipped to be the second-largest party.

BJP has raised doubts about the exit poll findings and maintained that it was hopeful about victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, which were very closely contested.

The party has felt that even in the exit polls, the difference in the vote shares of AAP and BJP was not much and that is why the party was confident about doing well.

Party insiders say that BJP candidates are facing a close race in at least 16 to 20 seats. Party leaders also claimed that the exit polls were favourable to AAP as those who had voted for it were more vocal than the people who had chosen BJP.

In the last Assembly polls, in 2013, BJP had secured 32 seats, including one won by its ally SAD, while AAP got 28 followed by Congress with eight.
