Congress today latched on to the “achhe din” remarks of Nitin Gadkari to target the Modi government, saying the BJP made promises and gave slogans only to “secure” votes in elections and will “never” fulfil them.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said Gadkari, a former BJP President, has made a public admission that “achhe din” (good days) will never come during BJP rule and going by the present pace, it will take another 100 years to bring them. He also cited ten examples of how this government was trying to “befool” people.

“For the Bharatiya Janata ‘Jumla’ Party, the ‘achhe din’ have turned unpalatable for them, Modi’s economics have become ‘jumla-comics’. What Amit Shah had said sometime ago, Nitin Gadkari has said in public now.

“By stating this, they have insulted the people of this entire country. It is pitiable as well as unfortunate, as it exposes the false promises made. Today, this fraud has come out,” he told reporters.

Singhvi said the true colours of this government have come out now in the open when it completes half its tenure. After the BJP chief, he said another former President of the party has now admitted that ‘achhe din’ promised by them ahead of elections shall never come.

“It is only an issue in the world of dreams. It is never going to be fulfilled in the coming times,” he said, adding that this web was created by the BJP only to befool 125 crore people of the country, as the data is on the ground and promises flown to the winds, with reality now coming out.

“Jumlas, sloganeering, data fudging, falsehood, propaganda and befooling the public has become a trademark of this government. That is why we can say that Modi government has become a ‘jumla’ government,” he said.

The Congress leader said all this was false propaganda created by the BJP, which has now raised its hands before the public.

“They made the public raise their hands many a time, today they have raised their own hands before the public. I feel that going by the present pace, one would not be surprised if it takes 100 years to bring these ‘achhe din’. This is the minimum, it will take Modi government,” he said.

Singhvi said it is not a question of governance or good governance, but an issue of the attitude of befooling and cheating people.

Citing examples to substantiate his point, he said GDP growth that has been shown as 7 to 7.5 per cent but is actually 5 to 5.5 per cent, while the promise of bringing back 80 lakh crore black money within 100 days of its coming to power and putting Rs 15 lakh in the bank accounts of every Indian has also fallen through.

Singhvi cited the “fudged” numbers of LPG beneficiaries, Jan Dhan scheme with zero balance, the “Fair and Lovely” tax amnesty scheme that has so far garnered only Rs 4,000 crore, the number of fake ration cards deleted, employment and rural electrification numbers to buttress his point.

Gadkari at a function in Mumbai had yesterday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s famous slogan of ‘acche din’ had originally been coined by his predecessor Manmohan Singh but has now become the “millstone” around the NDA government’s neck. Modi had extensively used the ‘acche din’ slogan during the last Lok Sabha elections.
