What could be more bizarre if national anthem of a country gets ban inside the country itself. That is what happened in an Allahabad-based school which banned recital of the national anthem by its staff and teachers as well as by student on Independence Day. Manager of M A Convent School said that the words of the national anthem violets beliefs and preachings of Islam. The move did not go down well with the staffs as principal along with 7 teachers resigned from the school. The teachers alleged that school manager Zia-ul-Haq was against the word ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ as according to him, “only Allah can be the Bhagya Vidhata, which means the one who decides our destiny. How can we call Bharat our Bhagya Vidhata?” The authorities said that the school which has around 300 students, is not recognised by the education department.
BJP has sought action against the school management and alleged that Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party is encouraging anti-national elements to pursue vote bank politics. “It is shameful that such a thing has been happening in the school for the last 12 years. A senior UP minister has ensured that no action is taken against the management. The SP government is giving protection not only to criminals and rapists but also to those who insult the nation and are anti-nationals,” said Shrikant Sharma, BJP’s National Secretary. Sharma alleged that this is nothing but vote bank politics as CM Akhilesh Yadav has failed on fronts like law and order and development in the state.
School principal Ritu Tripathi said that most of the staffs are new to the school and were shcoked to learn that it has not allowed recital of the anthem in the last 12 year. The allegations and autorities response raises serious questions on how a school has been functioning from last 12 years without any recognition and since the school is not recognised, what will be the future of around 300 students of the school.
“It is not duly recognized by the Basic Shiksha department and we had sent its management a notice to close the institution about a week ago,” said Jaikaran Yadav, Basic Shiksha Adhikari.
The education department officials have filed an FIR with the Colonelganj police station following which the school manager Zia-ul-Haq was detained on the charges of ‘breach of peace and tension in the area’.
