The injured children were rushed to the Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where the condition of some of them have been stated to be critical.
In a heart-rending incident, at least nine children were killed and about 20 were injured after a vehicle rammed into a school building in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. A speeding Bolero lost its control and ran over the school children who were standing outside a government school building. The students were returning to their homes after the school was over when a Bolero ploughed through them. Taking a note of the mishap, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announced Rs 4 lakh each as ex-gratia to the families of the deceased where 9 students were killed and 24 were injured.
The incident took place on Saturday at Ahiyapur-Jhapaha in Minapur police station area of the district. The injured children were rushed to the Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where the condition of some of them have been stated to be critical. Meanwhile, RJD MLA from Minapur, Munna Yadav rushed to the spot after the mishap. He alleged that the driver of the vehicle was inebriated. Yadav said that there has been no control on consumption of alcohol despite the state government’s claims of prohibition.
The rising accidents due to drink and drive in the country had earlier pushed for a cause in India. As part of its ongoing efforts to encourage road safety awareness, ride-sharing company Uber had joined hands with Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. In an affort to promote road safety among the people, the app-based taxi service has put up messaging on its mobile application and the social media through co-branded materials and mediums.
Uber said that the advertisements and videos targeting prevention of drunk driving and promotion of rear seat belts and hands on the wheel, among other themes, will be prepared and disseminated across the country as part of this safety campaign.
