Bihar Election 2025 Highlights: ‘Bihar getting a chance to celebrate four Diwalis’ – Amit Shah confident of forming govt with ‘biggest majority’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that in Bihar’s development phase, RJD and Congress and their allies in the INDIA Bloc have “again started mischief to obstruct progress, they’ve turned the issue into ‘Vikas banam burqa’.”

“While Bihar is talking about development and wants to move forward, Congress and RJD are trying to provoke a debate over burqas…” the UP CM added.

The Supreme Court said it will hear on Nov 4, the legal issues related to Special Intensive Revision exercise of electoral rolls in Bihar.

“Expect EC to look into typographical errors, other mistakes in Bihar voter list as responsible authority, come out with remedial measures,” the SC said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the legacy of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will move forward with strength and pride.

“Remember, the double-engine government has been able to control not only the corruption of RJD and Congress but also criminal enterprises…” he said.

JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said, “CM Nitish Kumar will begin campaigning today. He is set to visit several constituencies.”

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday reached Patna where he asserted that the NDA will return to power with a thumping majority in Bihar after the assembly polls.

Sai has arrived to participate in the nomination filing of several BJP candidates. Talking to the reporters, he said, “The central government has been continuously making efforts to make Bihar a fully developed state. The NDA will once again form government with a thumping majority in Bihar when the assembly poll results are out.”

On the opposition parties’ meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer in Maharashtra, Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput says, “Who opposed SIR? Why does the BJP and its ecosystem lie, deceive, and create drama? When did we ever oppose SIR? In Bihar, the opposition was during SIR, questioning how work that takes two years or eight months could be completed in one or two months. The BJP and its allies should stop lying…”

Bihar BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal on Thursday criticised the Congress-RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, pointing to tensions within the alliance as it has not yet announced its seat-sharing plan. As the BJP released its list of candidates for 101 seats it will contest, Jaiswal took a dig at the Opposition, saying the public trusts the NDA.

Speaking to ANI, he said that the NDA is the first alliance to release both its seat-sharing numbers and candidate list. He added that the Mahagathbandhan is still facing internal conflicts and has not made any decisions yet. Jaiswal also said that people understand the situation if the RJD-Congress were to form the government, and that the public continues to have faith in the NDA.

There is no update on seat-sharing talks within the Mahagathbandhan yet but the Congress has started announcing the names of the candidates. It is expected that the seat-sharing talks will be finalised by today.

Several senior BJP leaders, including chief ministers from around a dozen states and Union ministers, are expected to visit Bihar to encourage NDA candidates as they file their nomination papers. The nomination process for both phases of the elections will continue until October 20. A PTI report citing sources said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold rallies in Bihar ahead of the elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit poll-bound Bihar for three days starting Thursday. During his visit, he is expected to hold organisational meetings, meet leaders of alliance partners, and address some public gatherings. A senior BJP leader said Shah plans to announce candidates for all five NDA constituents on Thursday and will give instructions to party leaders to improve coordination among alliance partners as nominations for all 243 assembly seats are completed over the next four days.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, referring to RLM national president Upendra Kushwaha, said that all NDA parties are busy finalizing their candidates. He expressed confidence that every NDA candidate will win by a large margin and suggested that Bihar is ready for a fresh start.

Commenting on RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Tiwari noted that leaders who cannot maintain unity within their own families—pointing to a dispute between two brothers—cannot be expected to lead Bihar properly. He added that the lack of mutual support between Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi is clear to the public.

The Election Commission has put strict security in place at all nomination centres for the Bihar Assembly elections. Votes for both phases of the 243-seat assembly will be counted on 14th November.

A total of 7.42 crore voters are expected to cast their votes. In the second phase, polling will take place in West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar districts. Voting will also be held in Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Arwal, Kaimur, and Rohtas districts.

The Election Commission has announced the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections. Nominations are now open for 122 assembly seats across 20 districts. The last date to submit nominations is October 20. The nomination papers will be checked on October 21, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 23. Voting for this phase will take place on November 11. Nominations can be filed between 11 AM and 3 PM.

Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed confidence that the opposition Mahagathbandhan will soon reach a consensus on seat-sharing for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Asked about progress, he said, “I believe the decision will be made in a day or two. Discussions are underway, and I think a final call will be taken soon.”

Commenting on the recent charges against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the IRCTC scam, Gehlot questioned the timing: “Surprisingly, the courts, the ED and the CBI become active just before elections… the country is watching and it will give a fitting reply at the right time.”

Several senior leaders in Bihar, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, filed their nomination papers on Wednesday ahead of the assembly elections. Yadav, the INDIA bloc’s face, dismissed rumours of contesting multiple seats, confident of a third consecutive win from Raghopur. Sinha, seeking a fourth term from Lakhisarai, filed in the presence of Delhi CM Rekha Gupta. Meanwhile, JD(U) released its first list of 57 candidates, and BJP announced 12 more names, raising its total to 83. The NDA is also gearing up for high-profile campaigns, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah set to visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised the youth of Bihar for benefiting from the state’s improved situation and took a dig at the RJD for the period when Naxalites caused violence and disruption. Interacting with BJP workers via the NaMo App, Modi said, “The youth of the state have not seen the period which destroyed the state.” He announced a “double Diwali” celebration this year — first on October 20 and another on November 14 to mark the NDA’s anticipated victory. “Bihar’s sisters and daughters will play a significant role in this victory,” he added, urging active participation in the elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged women booth workers in Bihar to address him as “bhaiya” or brother, calling women his “biggest strength, shield and inspiration.” Speaking virtually through the NaMo app, he expressed confidence that Bihar will celebrate NDA’s victory on November 14, alongside Diwali celebrations. Modi asked women to vote in groups, sing songs, and beat thalis to mark the festival of democracy. He also directed BJP workers to host programmes for “sisters” on Bhai Dooj, highlight government schemes, and educate youth on the atrocities during the “jungle raj,” ensuring strong booths across the state.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s party LJP(RV) on Wednesday released its first list of 14 candidates for the Bihar assembly election 2025.

The party is contesting election on 29 seats as part of the seat-sharing deal in NDA.
