Bihar BJP MLC Lal Babu Prasad, who allegedly sexually harassed a fellow woman legislator on Wednesday, has been suspended by the state unit of the party. Prasad has also been removed from the post of BJP vice-president in the state. The woman MLC Nutan Singh, who was assaluted by Prasad, is a member of Lok Janshakti Party and wife of a BJP MLA Niraj Kumar Singh. On Thursday, Niraj had thrashed Prasad after the former received a complaint from Nutan. The incident took place on the premises of Legislative Assembly.

Prasad was not immediately suspended from the party on Thursday. Nityananda Rai, BJP state president had said it was the decision of the party to retain a member or let him go. According to Rai, Prasad was the treasurer of the previous committee.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Rai confirmed the incident and said that no written complaint had been received by the party though the incident was known to members and it is being discussed and will be taken care of. Rai also stressed on the fact that the decision to drop him from the new committee should not be linked to the present incident.

After being enquired what made the Chhatapur MLA Niraj Kumar Singh slap Lalbabu, he said that the latter had ‘ patted’ his MLC wife when she was on her way to the Legislative Council. The duo’s confrontation was also witnessed by several legislators. A formal complaint was, however, not lodged either with the state BJP chief nor the BJP legislative council chairperson.

According to Singh, it was a minor issue which was sorted out. He requested not to give it an unnecessary hype. Singh said that the Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav, who had been speaking on the social media regarding the incident, only wanted to gather ‘political mileage’.

Tejashwi Prasad questioned the media’s silence regarding the entire issue calling it “double standard”. He also took a jibe at the BJP’s anti-Romeo squad in Uttar Pradesh saying, “Let BJP first take care of its own Romeos, then think of action against other Romeos.

Lalbabu Prasad declined to comment.
