Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ruled out assertions that the cause of his exit from the BJP-led NDA fold was anything to do with his prime ministerial ambitions.

However, when insisted he quipped that to nurture prime ministerial ambitions was not a crime.

Nitish also backtracked from his earlier remark that some leaders in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had urged him to stand for the Prime Minister’s post.

“When they (the BJP) talk about pride and say that he split from the alliance because he wanted to become the Prime Minister, so I repeatedly say that I never wanted to become the Prime Minister neither there was any aspiration. But if somebody wants to become the Prime Minister then is it a crime,” he told ANI in an exclusive interview.

The Bihar Chief Minister had walked out of the NDA in 2013 in protest against the elevation of Narendra Modi, bringing to an end the 17-year-old alliance between the Janata Dal (United) and BJP.
